A Taste of Thailand: Songkran

After experiencing major success in it’s first year, upscale Thai restaurant, Songkran opened its second location. Executive Chef Junnajet Hurapan invited me to a Happy Hour experience of his wonderful restaurant that pays homage to Thailand’s most famous celebration, the Songkran water festival. The Happy Hour took place at the new Songkran restaurant in the Sugarland Town Square. I was lucky to be among those invited to this event.

Chef Junnajet “Jett” Hurapan built the Songkran menu with traditional recipes reminiscent of his birthplace, Bangkok, Thailand. Songkran’s resident pastry chef, Jira Hurapan, is also from Bangkok and is Chef Jett’s wife. Together, they bring guests the extraordinary flavors of their homeland through fresh, high-quality ingredients and authentic dishes, including a selection of curries, noodles, and vegetarian and gluten-free options. The Songkran bar boasts an extensive collection of cocktails, a sommelier-curated wine list, imported European and Asian beers, and several types of sake.

I had the opportunity of chatting with Chef Jet  and the restaurant's Sommelier about their start in the industry as well as their influences. With a food menu boasting flavor, Chef Jet wants " flavor to speak." Tasting and conversing with the restaurant sommelier, heightened my senses(get it, get it). I had the opportunity to taste some of their wines and signature cocktails, which made me want to come back to taste the food.

Hours are Monday-Thursday, 4 pm to 10 pm, and Friday-Saturday, 4 pm to 11 pm. For more information and reservations, please visit

Khao Pad: Basil Chicken Fried Rice. I loooove Fried Rice, but not everyone makes it well. This one is amazing!!

Lychee Martini: So fresh and light, but don't let the lightness fool you. lol. Highly recommend

The sweetest selection, with the middle one being my newest favorite drink. From left-Right: Dolce tastes like apple juice, Harvey's is right in the middle, and last but not least Bin 27 has a smooky sweetness. Highly recommend
