Ginger & Fork Houston Restaurant Weeks Preview

I had the pleasure of previewing the Houston Restaurant Weeks menu for Ginger & Fork, a Chinese restaurant in the Heights. Restaurant Owner and Culinary Director, Mary Li, opened Ginger & Fork in order to introduce native Chinese dishes to the inner city dwellers. Ginger & Fork serves exotic dishes influenced by Hong Kong and the Canton provinces, paired with great wines and crafted cocktails.

The restaurant is housed in the used to be location of La Fisheria. The establishment was extended to accommodate more guests and include a patio perfect for the coming season. You'll have a change to enjoy some cocktails crafted by Li herself and a delicious food menu that's also vegetarian friendly.

If you dine as a group, like we did, you'll love their spinning plates(not sure what they're called) which will make it easy to pass plates around the table in a spin the wheel kind of way. The staff brought out different items from their Houston Restaurant Weeks Brunch, Lunch and Dinner menus for us to try, family-style. You'll have the option of a 3-course brunch($22) or lunch($20) with $3 going to the Houston Food Bank, or a 4-course dinner($45) with $5 going to the food bank.

Without further a due, here are my recommendations for Houston Restaurant Weeks at Ginger & Fork. Please note, we tasted items from their brunch, lunch and dinner menus and I've listed recommendations from each categories.

Steamed Dumplings: Steamed dumplings with chicken and vegetables. Simple and delightful!
L-R
Woodear Mushrooms: Chilled woodear mushrooms with carrots and celery. A refreshing first course
Chilli Cabbage: Chilled spicy cabbage with carrots and celery. Another refreshing, slightly spicy starter
The Mains:(First 2 are highly recommended
Hong Kong Fluffy Eggs with Shrimp: HK style fluffy scrambled eggs. Very well seasoned, a cross between a frittata and an omelette.
Beef Chow Fun(at the bottom): Flat rice noodle stir-fried with soy sauce, bean sprouts and beef. You won't be able to put your fork down!
Fillet Mignonettes: Filet cut into cubes and stir-fried in black pepper sauce with exotic mushrooms
Desert( first 2 are highly recommended)
Mary's Ginger Parfait: Parfait style ginger cheesecake in a glass. Mama mia what perfection! I'm also obsessed with ginger so I absolutely loved this mini cheesecake in a glass.
Asian Pear Bread Pudding: Drizzled with homemade pear brandy caramel sauce. I think the fact that it's warm with that caramel sauce, it comes to life!
Goji Berry Gelatin: Not a fave
